To celebrate this special day, I decided to share an old recipe with a little ground hog in it [that would be pork sausage for those who did'.t get it...]. Igot this recipe from an ex.boyfriend's mother. If your try it, don't eat too much or you'll be seeing lots of your own shadow next ground hog day...
Oatmeal Baloney
1 box oatmeal [about 1 lb.]
1 lb. bacon . cut fine and browned
1.5 lbs. liver . cooked and ground
1/2 lb. pork sausage . browned
1 tbsp. salt
1.5 tsp. cinnamon
1.5 tsp. pepper
1.25 tsp marjarom
6 cups boiling water
1/3 cup bacon grease
1 lb. bacon . cut fine and browned
1.5 lbs. liver . cooked and ground
1/2 lb. pork sausage . browned
1 tbsp. salt
1.5 tsp. cinnamon
1.5 tsp. pepper
1.25 tsp marjarom
6 cups boiling water
1/3 cup bacon grease
Fry minced bacon until done but not too hard. Srain off grease and save to fry the oatmeal baloney. Mix all dry ingredients and cooked meats. Then mix thoroughly with the six cups of boiling water and 1/3 cup grease. Atore in glass pans [loaf pan if possible], and cover with foil. Store in refrigerator until firm. When ready to cook, cut off slices and fry in saved bacon grease. Eat plain or with syrup.

sounds like we would have to spend all day at the gym working off one bite!
I find that all recipes from the good old days are like this. I guess back then they didn't have all the conveniences we have today, so they worked off the fat and calories just by kneading the bread, shoveling the snow by hand, mowing the lawn with a push mower, etc...
