Speaking of Flying

A year ago, my husband and I flew to the small island of St. Eustatius
(five miles long by two miles wide) located in the Caribbean.

On our way to Statia, we had to land and take off
from the world's shortest commercial runway
located on a nearby island called Saba...

The runway is located on one end of the island
and measures only 1300 ft. (400 meters).
The span of usable runway between the
white markings is just under 1000 ft.

This is the Twin Otter plane we flew in.
You can see everything the pilot is doing.

Now you can experience it just as we
did, by watching the video below...

Having trouble reading the words?
These islands are part of the Netherland Antilles,
and the official language is Dutch.

Boy -- that really brought me back!! We've done that in the Bahamas and the Caribbean -- looked just like that! The one that scared me the most was when our pilot looked like he was 16...I'm REALLY not into those tiny planes! It was especially scary in the Bahamas when we looked down and saw MULTIPLE planes that had gone down and were abandoned on the cliffs below...not a real morale-booster to someone who was already scared witless!
