sunday reflections:

:: relief society :: testimony . elder dallin h. oaks

a testimony of the gospel is a personal witness borne to our souls by the holy ghost that certain facts of eternal significance are true and that we know them to be true. god will manifest the truth of spiritual things unto us by the power of the holy ghost.

a personal testimony is fundamental to our faith. how does one gain what we call a a testimony...
desire to know
ask god in sincere prayer
gain or strengthen a testimony by bearing it
partake of the sacrament each week

those who have a testimony of the restored gospel have a duty to share it. those who have the gift to know have an obvious duty to bear their witness so that those have the gift to believe on their words might also have eternal life.

our children should also hear us bear our testimonies frequently. we should also strengthen our children by encouraging them to define themselves by their growing testimonies. not just by their recognitions in scholarship . sports . or other school activities. we should speak the truth in love. knowledge encourages obedience and obedience enhances knowledge.

:: sunday school :: alma 53-63
we are fighting spiritual battles today just as the strippling warriors fought:
hatred
pornography
same sex marriage
legalization of illegal activities: alcohol . drugs . prostitution

if we could be a fly on the wall in the homes of the strippling warriors what would we see...
prayer . following commandments respect . keeping covenants . testimony . and faith. the same things we need today to win our spiritual battles...

:: sacrament meeting ::
jaelho yu: it is safer and easier to climb our mountains with the help of god.

steve harper: we feel the holy ghost in our lives as much as we want. we need to recognize the holy ghost and what the message is. the scarement prayer tells us what we need to do to have the holy ghost always with us: taken upon us the name of our savior . always remember him. keep his commandments...

will winder: we can think of the holy ghost as our personal liahona that will guide and direct us if we keep the commandments and counsel with the lord in all that we do and say. how do we know the spirit is directing us... be humble and faithful and do not turn away the still small voice.
