Sunday Reflections

:: Relief Society :: Writing Your Own Obituary
Leave a legacy instead of just a beginning and ending date.
What do I need to do to be remembered for what I want to be remembered for?
If your are not enjoying life, then you are doing something wrong...

Sister Hinckley quoting Linda Bentley Johnson: I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with grass stains on my shoes from mowing Sister Schenk's lawn. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making peanut butters sandwiches for a sick neighbor's children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived.

:: Sunday School :: 3 Nephi: 16, 20-21
Christ instructs the Nephites. Imagine capturing what was happening to these people in their journals...

Prophesy: Scattering and Gathering
1917 - Balfour Delcaration: Britain is the first Great Power committed to a Jewish home in Palestine.
1948 - Establishment of Israel in what was once Palestine. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.
[Isaiah 60:3]
1948-51 - Immigration of Jews. 28 people per hour, 24 hours a day for three and one half years.

Prophesy: Gathering of saints to Zion
When the gospel was first restored the saints literally gathered in Nauvoo, Kirkland, etc. and then in Utah. The gathering now is a spiritual gathering. In General Conference, April 1975 President Kimball taught:
The “gathering of Israel” is effected when the people of the faraway countries accept the gospel and remain in their native lands. The leaders are migrating and they need to stay and establish the church where they are.

:: Sacrament Meeting :: Testimonies
Avoid mannequinism. Don't let yourself become deadened to the things that are spiritually important.

Keep your families close to you.
Heavenly Father must have great character in order to love us all with our unique personalities.
Our testimonies are strengthened by each other in so many different ways.
We are lost if we don't have the faith to find hope.
Think about who you are thankful to for what you have.
We can learn from the experiences and trials of others.
Power in my prayer instead of power in prayer. This trial has helped me to be humble to learn.
Appreciate the freedoms we have.
This love can continue for ever.
Testimonies born and lived have strengthened me.
Fasting brins into focus those things that are most important in life.
