Given the choice, I would rather eat cookie dough than the cookies. But, if it must be cooked, then I want it soft, not crunchy. This is the best recipe for soft sugar cookies I have. If you form the cookies into hearts for Valentine's Day, someone is going to love you for a long time...
Old-Fashion Sugar Cookies:
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup milk
5 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
pinch of salt
1 tsp. soda
Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs and milk, gradually. Add the dry ingredient that have been sifted together. Cover and refrigerate overnight or at least 2 hours. Roll out dough 1/4 inch thick and cut desired shapes. Bake @ 375ยบ for 8 to 10 minutes.
Frosting:
1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 egg white
1/4 tsp. vanilla
food coloring
