Your Age By Chocolate

image001.jpg@01CCE7D1.0E218280
Don't tell me your age; you'd probably lie anyway-but the Hershey Man will know!

YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE

image002.jpg@01CCE7D1.0E218280
This is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute.
Work this out as you read.
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10).

image004.jpg@01CCE7D1.0E218280
2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold).

image005.jpg@01CCE7D1.0E218280
3. Add 5.

image006.jpg@01CCE7D1.0E218280
4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator...

image007.jpg@01CCE7D1.0E218280
5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1762...
If you haven't, add 1761...

image008.jpg@01CCE7D1.0E218280
6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

image009.jpg@01CCE7D1.0E218280
You should have a three digit number:

image010.jpg@01CCE7D1.0E218280
The first digit of this was your original number
(i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week).
image011.jpg@01CCE7D1.0E218280
The next two numbers are...

image012.jpg@01CCE7D1.0E218280
YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)

image013.jpg@01CCE7D1.0E218280
THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2012) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.

and - wipe that chocolate off your lips!

Understanding Numbers

Do you know why numbers look the way they do? Someone, at some point in time, had to create their shapes and meaning.

The numbers we write (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) are made up of algorithms called Arabic algorithms, to distinguish them from Roman Algorithms (I, II, III, IV, etc.).

The Arabs popularized these algorithms, but their origin goes back to the Phoenician merchants that used them to count and do their commercial accountability.

The logic behind the Arabic number algorithms is the angles. Check out the angles in the number algorithms written their primitive form:

P.S. We are so lucky we didn't end up using Roman Numerals, because they didn't have a zero. Can you imagine trying to do mathematical calculations and operations without a zero...

Pi (Ï€) Day

Today is the first officially recognized Pi Day
in the United States: March 14 or 3.14

You could celebrate by reading this book, or...

your could draw a circle picture, or...

play checkers, or...

circle the wagons, or...

eat round food, or...

participate in a circle dance, or...

listen to a CD or watch a DVD, or...

run around in circles...

Do you have any other ideas?

Pi Day

Today, at school, it's
Pi Day
We celebrate Pi every March 14th (3.14)

Pi is the 16th letter of the Greek alphabet.
It is also the mathematical symbol for the ratio of the
circumference of a circle to its diameter.

Pi = 3.1415926535...

Students bring round edible items to measure, and to prove that
3.14 times the length of the diameter of a circle is equal to
the circumference of that circle. And, then we all eat pie...
