Understanding Numbers

Do you know why numbers look the way they do? Someone, at some point in time, had to create their shapes and meaning.

The numbers we write (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) are made up of algorithms called Arabic algorithms, to distinguish them from Roman Algorithms (I, II, III, IV, etc.).

The Arabs popularized these algorithms, but their origin goes back to the Phoenician merchants that used them to count and do their commercial accountability.

The logic behind the Arabic number algorithms is the angles. Check out the angles in the number algorithms written their primitive form:

P.S. We are so lucky we didn't end up using Roman Numerals, because they didn't have a zero. Can you imagine trying to do mathematical calculations and operations without a zero...

WOW! You might've slightly made me like numbers a tiny bit more! The angle thing is so interesting...I love it! I was one of those kids in math who probably drive math teachers crazy because I just didn't get it...ever (and still don't). I bet I would've turned out different if I had you teach me math! Maybe I could drop by one of your classes and learn a thing or two! haha.
